Update:
Here is reader Deanna’s experience of ordering her Space NK Spring Beauty Edit gift bag. Purchasing from the Space NK online store wins!
Just FYI so you or your readers know, I wound up ordering on Space NK’s Web site and cancelling the order I made in store over the phone. First, the recommended agent wasn’t there, so I got another SA that couldn’t have seemed less interested in my order. Of the four things I wanted to order, they didn’t have two so there were two substitutions. Since one substitute was a tad more, my total came to $265. They mentioned an $8.95 shipping fee but made no mention of tax. It felt like ordering from a Chinese restaurant where you hang up and aren’t sure if they wrote down your address correctly, and you don’t get a dollar total, order number or any promise of shipping information.
That night (About 2 pm late on Feb 13) I went to Space NK’s Web site. Everything I wanted was in stock (Sunday Riley Good Genes 1 oz, Sunday Riley UFO oil, Viseart Chroma Palette and Lipstick Queen’s Jean Queen) plus I found that in addition to the code for the 33-piece gift, I could enter five other coupon codes for additional freebies. There was no tax and no shipping. My total was right at $252, and by the time I got up the next day, my order had already shipped. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to get ahold of the store to cancel my other order before it shipped so I transferred some funds to make sure the additional payment would not clear. The total they tried to run on my card came to $283.69. (I did let them to know to cancel the order later in the day.) So that’s just my experience. Yes, I missed out on the $25 Bloomingdales gift card I would have earned with points, but instead I got five bonus gifts (Hey, that free brush alone is valued at $28 if you haven’t taken advantage of that code yet!) plus it would have been $30 more at Bloomingdales, negating any savings. (My base order at Bloomingdales was $13 more so I suppose after the additional $17 you pay the store, you’re really only coming out ahead by $8 when considering the $25 Bloomingdales credit.
Anyway, just my two cents. I generally just order at brand Web sites such as Tarte or Urban Decay, or Sephora for numerous brands, so I’d never done an order with Space NK where there was a big loot bag. Anyway, sorry that was so long winded. I find your blog super helpful and one I like to check daily so just thought I’d share my experience in case it makes it easier for others in the future. Thanks for posting about deals!

I am sorry Deanna you were not satisfied with your experience. I certainly see that your points are valid!
However, for me personally, it came way better to order from the store because
1) I already used up the promos, and you can’t use them twice on space nk website
2) I get taxed no matter where I buy, because space nk has a store in MA, therefore when I order form spacenk.com I get charged for tax too
3)Shipping is free at Bloomingdale’s, they just take it away at the very last step of transaction. At the end you don’t get charged for shipping. But SA always tells me that on her computer the final”amount” includes shipping, but once they actually ship it, its waived. So shipping is free either ins tore or online!
4) My SA is so nice to me that they let me get ndulge deluxe even though I reached the amount needed for the upgrade after 12 months have passed. I was 1 week late but they manually went and upgraded me, so now I get many more perks.
so in sum, I think it depends on a person. If you really don’t get taxed and haven’t used the promos, yes I totally agree, that the online store is a better option for you!
Hi Alexandra, thanks for the comment! ?
Thanks for your reply Alexandra! I can see how the store might be a better way to go for some! I’m in Texas so it was tax-free for me but I’ve definitely run across companies that only charge sales tax in Texas too. I think online worked better for me this time around, but I’ll definitely consider the store in the future if I’ve used all the codes. (I’m more of a Sephora addict and really only order at Space NK a couple of times a year. Plus my experience might have been different if I’d been able to get a hold of Loren, the SA you recommended. They said she was off that day.)
